Pasi Paruppu Payasam



Pasi Paruppu Payasam, also known as Moong Dal Payasam, is a traditional South Indian dessert made with moong dal, milk, jaggery (or sugar), and flavored with aromatic spices. It's a creamy and delicious sweet dish often served during festivals and special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup moong dal split yellow lentils
  • 1 cup jaggery or sugar
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons ghee clarified butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 10-12 cashew nuts
  • 10-12 raisins
  • A pinch of saffron strands

Instructions:

Dry roast moong dal until golden brown

Pressure cook moong dal until soft

In a separate pan, heat ghee and fry cashews and raisins until golden

Set aside

Boil milk in a separate pot

Add cooked moong dal to the boiling milk and simmer until well combined

Add jaggery or sugar and mix until dissolved

Stir in cardamom powder and saffron strands

Finally, add fried cashews and raisins

Mix well

Serve hot or chilled
